Concept
Hofstadter’s anatomy of any message (Gödel, Escher, Bach, Ch VI): the frame message (‘I am a message, decode me’), the outer message (the decoding mechanism the receiver must already hold — implicit, carried by the medium), and the inner message (the meaning the sender intended). The book adapts it: each pipeline re-encoding can strip a layer independently, and the outer message is what the book calls preconditions.
